Sri Lankan Human Rights Commission (HRC) conducted inquiries Wednesday into the death of the Sinhala suspect held at the Police Head Quarters in Colombo. The officials from the HRC visited the scene and recorded statements from the Director of the Investigation section and the personnel involved in the interrogation of the deceased detainee, O. G. Chandrasena, HRC officials said.
Even though the HRC officials maintained that deciding the cause of death as suicide is premature, after the inquest held Wednesday, the city coroner announced that the death was self-inflicted. Chandrasena, 36, a Sinhala national from Colombo, was arrested by Police in Valaichchenai, Batticaloa, last year on charges of assisting the LTTE, and was detained at the Police Head Quarters in Colombo for nearly four months. His body was found in the toilet Tuesday morning.
