Auto-driver shot dead, decaptitated body found in Jaffna

Unidentified men shot dead an auto-driver at this home in Aanaikoddai in Valigamam, Jaffna at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, sources in Jaffna said. The armed men called the driver outside his house and shot him dead at point blank range before escaping. Meanwhile, in another incident, local residents discovered the decapitated body of a youth in a farmland in Mylankadu in Erlalai Jaffna Monday. The youth was brought to the area the previous night and murdered at the crime scene, according to sources.

Krishnavaratharajah Kanthanesan, 23, auto-driver living near the old post office in Aanaikodai was identified as the victim in the Tuesday shooting.

Kanthanesan's body has been transferred to the Jaffn Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations, hospital sources said.

Meanwhile, the decaptitated body found in Erlalai also has been taken to the Jaffna Hospital.

The victim has not been identified yet, according to hospital sources.
