Jaffna Government Agent (GA), K. Ganesh, said he will be
submitting a preliminary report prepared regarding the
resettlement of displaced persons to residences in High
Security Zones (HSZ) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Valigamam north to the High Court soon, in a press meet convened at the Jaffna District Secretariat Tuesday.
Interviews considering applications made by persons, displaced from their places in the HSZ wishing to be resettled in their former
dwellings, and now living in various parts of Jaffna peninsula as well as in foreign countries, were held during the course of last few weeks. Jaffna district secretariat officials as well as officials of the SLA were in the interview panels. The interviews were held with the aid of the Divisional
Secretariats where the applicants now live. Particulars of the
applicants were collected during the interviews. Thousands of displaced families have expressed their wish to be resettled in their own residences trapped within the HSZs according to statistics collected, Secretariat sources said. "We are in the final stage of compiling the data collected. I will submit my own recommendations and suggestions regarding the selection of applicants and the places for resettlement. The final decision,
however, will be made by the High Court," the GA said.
