2 police officers injured in Batticaloa grenade attack

An unidentified youth on motorbike lodged a hand grenade on a group of Sri Lanka police officers on road patrol near the petrol station at Arayamapthy in Kathankudy police division in Batticaloa district, Tuesday around 7:30 p.m injuring two policemen, Kathankudy police said. Both are admitted to Batticaloa Teaching hospital.

Sergent, Karunaratne, 36, and Veerasinghe, 33, are the two police personnel injured.

The police opened fire following the incident but the youth escaped from the site unhurt.

Arayampathy is located 8 km south of Batticaloa town.
