Family man abducted, shot dead in Jaffna

The bullet ridden body of young married man was discovered by his wife Wednesday morning in an abandoned house in a border village located in the High Security Zone (HSZ) under the control of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Ampanai area in Alaveddy in Valigamam North.

The victim was identified as Balasubramaniam Sivaganeshan, 31, a father of three children and a resident of Sithankerny, Ulavaththai of Vaddukoddai

The wife of the deceased had earlier lodged a complaint with the Jaffna office of Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission (SLHRC) stating that her husband left for work Tuesday morning and had not returned home.

The victim is believed to have been abducted by unidentified men and tortured before being shot dead.

Sarojini Ilangovan, Mallagam Magistrate who rushed to the scene of the incident after prelimilinary investigations ordered the body to be taken to Jaffna Teaching hospital.

Meanwhile, a close friend of the deceased a father of three, also a resident of Sithankerny, Vaddukoddai surrendered himself on Wednesday at the office of Jaffna office of SLHRC seeking protection for his life .He has complained that he and the deceased fiend have been receiving death threats in the recent days .Arrangements are being made by the officials of HRC to keep him in protective custody in Jaffna prison.
