Navy sailors rape teenager

Three Sri Lankan Navy (SLN) personnel abducted and raped 16 year old school girl from Arasady road in Vaddukoddai, 9 km. north.west of Jaffna centre, on Saturday October 17 around 9.30 p.m, said sources there.

The navy personnel went to the girl's home late in the evening on Saturday and asked her father where she was.

When they came to know that the girl was not there and was staying at her relatives house, the navy men had gone there, abducted and raped her the sources said.

Her father was also beaten by the navy men.

The girl is a student at the 'Thirugnanasampanthar vidyalayam'. Her father owns a backery and the family live close to it.

The involved SLN personnel are reported to be stationed at the near by navy camp.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) shot dead a civilian, Chithiran Rajakopal, 38, on Sunday, October 18, at Gurunagar in Jaffna.

He is from Delton estate in Kandy and has been living in Jaffna for a long time, the sources said.

The SLA said the man was shot at for violating curfew.
