Civilian found dead in Thenmaradchi

Kodikamam police recovered the body of a family man Thursday morning at Yathali, Thavalai area in Varani, Thenmaradchy and handed it over to Jaffna Teaching hospital. The victim lived within the demarcated boundary of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone, an area where the 52nd SLA division and SLA camps are located.

The victim was identified as Vellupillai Kanagalingam, 45.

Hospital sources said he died of poisoning.

Kanagalingam was seen buying things as usual from an eating place Wednesday evening, local residents said.

He had been living alone in his house which was also used as a motor repair garage. His mother had gone looking for him at the house as he failed visit her in the morning as he does regularly, the residents added.

Chavakacheri magistrate ordered post mortem examinations to be conducted.
