IDP shot dead in Kaluthavalai

[TamilNet, Saturday, 28 April 2007, 02:14 GMT]
Unidentified armed persons wearing masks abducted an Internally Displaced Person (IDP), a father of a child, from his temporary dwelling in Seddipalayam and shot him dead around 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Kaluthavalai, a neighboring village 2 km south, in Kaluwanchchikkudy Police division in Batticaloa district.

The victim, Mahenthirarajah Varathan, 23, of Nagamunai, Ampilanthurai in Paduvankarai region, previously controlled by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, fled home due to the SLA offensive and took refuge with his relatives at Beach road, Seddipalayam North.

The masked men came to his place, called him by name and took him away forcefully when he came out. They took him to Kaluthavalai, shot him dead and dumped his body in front of the Nagathampiran temple.

Kaluwanchchikkudy Police took the body to Kaluwanchchikkudy District hospital Friday morning and handed it over to the relatives after the investigation in the evening.

Kaluthavalai is situated 22 km south of Batticaloa.
