Two civilians, one from Sarasaalai in Thenmaradachy and the other from A'laveddy, were abducted in Jaffna district on Friday and Saturday according to complaints filed at the Jaffna offices of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), sources in Jaffna said.

Paramasamy Thayaparan, 37, a trader from Sarasaalai was abducted from his home by armed men arriving in a white van Friday night, Thayaparan's wife said in a complaint to the HRC.

Thayaparan's National Identity card was forcibly taken away from him by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers the previous day Thursday, she further said in her complaint.

Meanwhile, Ponnambalam Jeyaseelan, 36, a worker at the Sri Lanka Electricity board and a father of five children, was abducted by armed cadres in a white van from his home Saturday night, HRC sources said.

Jeyaseelan's house is located in Kalainagar area in A'laveddy North.
