Swedish NGO conducts workshop for journalists in Jaffna

Swedish FOJO International, engaged in developing journalism, along with Jaffna University Media Resource and Training Centre (MRTC), conducted a workshop for Jaffna peninsula journalists at Jaffna University, Tuesday. Acting vice Chancellor Prof. R. Kumaravadivel ceremonially started the event where FOJO International consultant Mr. Y. Henrik Grunnet was an honored guest.

'News gathering and reporting for media with special reference to human rights, women's rights and health' was the title under which the workshop was conducted.

Prof. A. Shanmugathas, Director of MRTC and Prof. R. Sivachandran, Dean of Art Faculty, delivered the introductory speeches.

Senior media persons and several lecturers spoke at the inauguration ceremony.

More than 60 journalists and media personnel enthusiastically participated in the workshop which is scheduled to continue Wednesday too.

After an interruption of an year and half period due to the volatile situation beginning in December 2005, FOJO recommenced its activities in Jaffna peninsula Tuesday.
