Muslim youth shot dead at Saambaltheevu

A Muslim youth was shot dead Monday morning around 8:30 a.m. at Aaththimoaddai, a suburb in Saambaltheevu village along Trincomalee-Nilaave'li road by an unidentified armed person. The victim has been identified as Mohamed Azaath, 25, a native of Irrakakandy, a suburb in Nilaave'li.

According to preliminary investigations carried out by the Uppuve'li Police, the deceased had been employed as a driver in a private sector van transporting passengers to and from Nilaveli.

He was driving his vehicle on Monday and stopped the vehicle Aaththimoaddai junction to take passengers. At that time an unidentified person who was waiting at the bus halt had got into the vehicle and fired at him.

Aaththimo'ddai area is located about 10 km north of Trincomalee town.
