Wijayasinghe, a father of three children, was from Malkoduwawe, a small hamlet situated along Neerkolumbu road in Kurunagala. He had assumed duties at Ea'raavur Police station three days earlier.

The critically injured constable was first admitted to Ea'raavoor District hospital and later taken to Batticaloa Teaching hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Vinoba Indran, the acting District Judge, Batticaloa, conducted the postmortem inquiries.

Meanwhile, Ea'raavoor Police questioned some Muslim youths regarding the recent burning of three shops in the town along the Ea'raavur Main Street around 12:15 a.m. on 6 May. Pamphlets issued in the area named the youths as responsible for arson.

No arrests have been made related to the arson.

In the meantime, the Muslim businessmen of the area shut down their shops demanding the Police to find out the culprits involved in the burning of the shops.
