SLA arrests 14 Tamil civilians in Puttalam

Fourteen Tamil civilians aged between 18 and 26 were arrested in Wennapuwa town in Puttalam division in the northwestern province Friday morning in a cordon and search operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and police. All were employees at a local shoe factory, sources said.

Among them four are women. All are natives of Hatton and Pussellawa in the central province.

All of them are now being detained in Wennapuwa police station and are being interrogated to find out whether they had been involved in any insurgent activities in the area, police sources said.
