Tigers hand over 12 SLA bodies to ICRC

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 05 June 2007, 12:59 GMT]
Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) Tuesday morning handed over 12 dead bodies of Sri Lanka Army troopers killed in LTTE raid on Vavuniyaa-Mannaar border villages Sunday to the ICRC. Three SLA bodies were scheduled to be handed over in Mannaar, but no one arrived to receive the bodies, LTTE's Liasion Officer told media. The SLA officials have been reluctant in receiving the dead bodies as the military leadership was yet to admit the casualties in the Tiger raid, informed sources in Vavuniyaa said.

LTTE's NGO and U.N. Liaison Officer M. Pavarasan handed over the bodies packed in black bags to the ICRC Sub Delegation in Ki'linochchi at 10:30 a.m.

Only 15 bodies were to be handed over. The other bodies were highly decomposed and buried in LTTE controlled area in Mannaar.
