A youth from Vara'ni in Thenmaraadchi division, arrested by Sri Lanka police on May 06 while staying in a lodge located at Gunasinghapura in Colombo accusing the youth as a belonging to the LTTE, was released by the Colombo Magistrate Mr.Manjula Thilakaretna Tuesday when the police told court that the investigation conducted by the Terrorist Intelligence Unit had revealed that the suspect was not involved in any crime, legal sources in Colombo said.

Senior Counsel Mr.V.S.Mahalingam submitted to court that the suspect, Velupillai Rajkumar, was taken into custody when he was staying in a lodge making preparation to go abroad seeking employment opportunity.

The defence counsel reminded the court that on an earlier date, May 14 the court had allowed the suspect on surety bail. But no one came forward to stand as surety and the youth had been kept in remand.

At that stage Sergeant Karunatilake of Vaazhaiththoaddam Police submitted to court that the suspect was not involved in any terrorist activity, according to reports by the Terrorist Intelligence Unit.
