Youth in police custody feared killed in Thenmaraadchi

A youth taken by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for interrogation on 29 May, and after undergoing torture, handed over to Chavakachcheari police to be held in police custody, is feared killed, according to the complaint made by his father Friday to Jaffna Human Rights Commission office. The police, after obtaining permission from the District Judge to hold the youth in custody for further interrogation had later informed the youth's father that his son had escaped from custody.
Selvarasa Thushyanthan, 29, of Manthuvil, Chavakachcheari in Thenmaraadchi is feared killed in custody, civil society sources in Jaffna said. The police Chavakachcheari police said they know nothing about Thushayanthan as he had escaped from custody after interrogation. The police have not produced the youth at the Magistrates court yet.
