10 killed in prolonged fight in Batticaloa - LTTE

Liberation Tigers Military Spokesman, on Sunday, said the Tiger forces have reconsolidated four Forward Defence Line (FDL) localities surrounding the Kudumpimalai area after 36 hours of heavy fighting with the Sri Lankan forces in which the Tigers lost 10 fighters at the forward positions in Palaamaadu and Maavadi Oadai. Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Army has claimed to have inflicted heavy casualties on the Tigers. Dead bodies of eight LTTE fighters killed in action were handed over to the ICRC, the SLA said.
Irasiah Ilanthirayan, the LTTE military spokesman, said the Sri Lankan forces also suffered casualties in the stiff resistance put up by the Tigers. Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombers also attacked the Kudumpimalai area Saturday.
