31,000 to be resettled in Vavu'natheevu

A conference to review the third stage of resettlement process of the IDPs in Vavu'natheevu area, Batticaloa, scheduled to commence Friday June 15, was held Tuesday morning 10:00a.m. at Vavu'natheevu Divisional Secretariat attended by a number of administrative officials and members of the Sri Lanka forces, sources in Batticaloa said. Nearly 31,000 members of 8100 families are to be resettled during this phase, according to details revealed at the meeting.

The conference chaired by K.Mahesan Additional Government Agent (AGA), was attended by H.M.B.Herath, Batticaloa district Senior Police Commissioner, Major Bertie Perera Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Co-ordinating Officer, Ranjith Perera, Senior superintendent of Police Special Task Force (STF), Lal Weerakoon, Resettlement Coordinator from Presidential Secretariat, K.Vimalanathan, Divisional Secretary (DS), Heads of various departments and Grama sevaka (village level administrators) officers.

The meeting explored matters related to providing internal infrastructure, re-activating government departments, and establishing time schedule for the relocation of internally displaced people, according to attendees.
