Fifteen Tamil civilians arrested by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Moothoor division were released by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Ms Sarojini Kusala Weerawardene Wednesday after six months in detention when the police informed court that there was no evidence against them to charge in court. All are residents of Pa'l'likkudiyiruppu, a Tamil village in Moothoor division, legal sources said.
SLA troopers conducted a search operation in a refugee camp located in Chelvanakar Tamil School and arrested 15 persons on 13th December last year. All arrested were refugees from Pa'l'likkudiyiruppu and sought refuge. The Terrorist Intelligence Unit took them to Colombo after inquiry in Trincomalee. Later they were sent to Boosa detention camp in Galle in the southern province.
