Missing civilian reported detained in SLA Vara'ni camp

A young family man missing since June 13 from Manthuvil area in Thenmaraadchi, following a clash between unidentified armed men and Sri Lanka Army (SLA), is being detained in the SLA 52nd division camp at Vara'ni, his wife and family members said in a complaint made to Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office, Friday. The SLA and Kodikaamam police, however, refused to register their complaints, the complainants told the HRC.
Rasenthiram Thavarasa, 36, a father of one child and is a resident of Kalluvam, Kara'navay in Karaveddi area in Vadamaraadchi. Thavarasa went missing after he was seen close to the area in his motorbike where clash took place at Manthuvil, his wife said. Three youths were shot dead in the said clash while five had gone missing following the fight. Thavarasa had left home around 9:30 a.m., on his motor cycle and was on his way to his mother's house at Manthuvil in Kodikaamam area. His motor cycle was found left abandoned at the site of the clash and local residents had seen Thavarasa being taken away by the SLA on Buffel personnel armoured carrier, his wife and family members said in their complaint to the HRC.
