Muslim woman knifed to death in Vaazhaichcheanai

An unidentified attacker forced entry into a house at Maavadichcheanai in Vaazhaichcheanai police division in Batticaloa district Thursday around 3:00 a.m., knifed to death a young Muslim family woman and escaped from the site, sources in Vaazhaichcheanai said.

The victim was identified as Aabdeen Hilmiya, 25, a mother of a 2 year old child and a resident on the Cross street along Maavadichcheanai Main Street.

Hilmiya was asleep alone at her house with her child when the killer broke in.

Her husband, a fish trader by profession, had traveled to Colombo on business, and the attacker appeared to have knowledge that Hilmiya was alone, local residents said.

Vaazhaichcheanai police are investigating into the killing.

Vaazhaichcheanai is located 30 km from Batticalao town.
