The Consortium of Non Governmental Organisation in Jaffna and Missing Persons Guardian Association (MPGA) organised a march in Jaffna yesterday. The procession started at the office of NGO consortium in Rasavinthoddam and ended in front of the office of National Human Rights Commission (HRC) at Somasundaram Avenue.
Protesters handed over a memorandum urging the HRC, among other things, to take immediate steps to release the full detail of those who are detained, to stop re-arresting detainees who are released in Anuradhapura and to schedule without delay the hearing of the case filed by the MPGA. Meanwhile Eelam People's Democratic Organisation (EPDP) organised a protest march in Jaffna which started at the Jaffna Katcheri and ended at the main bus terminal in the town. The EPDP handed over a memorandum to the Government Agent (GA) of Jaffna, Mr.K.Shanmuganathan and distributed leaflets urging the Sri Lankan Government to establish travel arrangements to the peninsula and appealing for the Tiger's help in restoring flight and boat service to and from Jaffna.
