Tamil civilian shot to death in Kalkudaa

Unidentified armed men shot and killed a family man Friday night in Karungkaalichchoalai area, Kalkudaa, in Batticaloa district, Vaazhaichcheanai police said. The men forcibly took the victim from the welfare centre at 9:45p.m., shot him at 10:00 p.m. and escaped from the site after dumping his body in Karungkaalichchoalai, according to police.
The victim has been identified as Sellathamby Anantharajah, 43, a father of five children, residing in Vaazhaichcheanai Vinaayakapuram refugee camp. The victim’s body with gun shot wounds on the head and chest was recovered by Vaazhaichcheanai police Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. and kept in the mortuary at Vaazhaichcheanai hospital. Sellathamby a resident of Ooththuchcheanai in Batticaloa district was displaced from his village during the recent military offensive in Vaharai region and was temporarily residing in Vinaayakapuram welfare centre. Vaazhaichcheanai police have commenced enquiries into this killing as well as the three other Tamil family men shot to death in Paasikkudaa Tuesday. Vaazhaichcheanai is located 30 km north of Batticaloa.
