Jaffna SLTB, Postal departments agitate for information on abducted employees

The officials of Northern region Sri Lanka Transport board (SLTB) and postal department have appealed to the police and Jaffna office of Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission (SLHRC) to provide information regarding the bus conductor and the postal employee who have been missing in Jaffna islets near Madaththadi , Pungkudutheevu since Thursday June 07, civil sources in Jaffna said.

The conductor Mathiyaparanam Pratheepan, 33, a father of three children, from Kozhumpuththu'rai, Jaffna, and working as conductor at the Koa'ndaavil bus depot was travelling in a bus to Ku'rikaadduvaan at the time of the abduction. He had stepped out in Veala'nai to report the engine failure of the bus when he was abducted. The postal dept employee is also said to have disappeared along with the conductor.

According to latest reports the postal bag carried by Mathiyaapara'nam has been discovered in Kallu'ndai and was handed over to the main post office in Jaffna.

Meanwhile, Kayts police have submitted a report concerning the disappearance of these two men. Unconfirmed reports say Kayts police have recorded evidence from more than thirty eye witnesses.

Further, officials from the Jaffna office of SLHRC visited the area Saturday to review the progress into the investigation of the disappearance of the two men.
