SLA fire wounds three

Three civilians, all women, were wounded in the SLA's retaliatory fire in the heart of the densely populated village of Kommathurai, 19 kilometers north of Batticaloa, last evening around 6 p.m.
A joint patrol by the SLA and cadres of the Razeek group from the Kommathurai camp which is located in the centre of the village were on a routine foot patrol about 200 meters from the detachment when a group of Tigers whom they had surprised fired on them and withdrew. Both cadres of the Razeek group and the soldiers had run back to the camp and fired indiscriminately on the area as civilians ran for cover.Three women were wounded in the shooting. Later, a party of soldiers and Razeek group cadres had gone into the village and indiscriminately beaten up a large number of civilians, including women and children.
