The Colombo High Court Monday fixed the Trial-at-Bar inquiry into the Mirusuvil massacre case commencing from October 29. The sitting will be conducted daily till the completion of the inquiry, said Judge Upali Abeyaratne, Chairman of the three-member bench. The other two judges are Deepali Wijesundara and Sunil Rajapakse, legal sources said.

The court further said that the inquiry into the case had been put off for various reasons in past. But no such postponement would be allowed in future once the inquiry commences on October 29.

The Attorney General has indicted five soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Sunil Ratnayake, Wedegedera Senath Munasinghe, Tennekone Jayaratne, Subasinghe Appuhamige Pushpasamankumara and Gamini Munasinghe with the murder of eight Tamil civilians, Gnanapalan Ravichandran, Sellamuthu Theivakulasingham, Visvarajah Pratheepan, Sinniah Visvarasa, Nadesu Jeyachchandran, Kathiran Gnanachchandran, Gnanachandran Shanthan and Visvarajah Prasath and attempted murder of Ponnuthurai Maheswaran.

The civilians were murdered while they were visiting to inspect their abandoned houses in Mirusuvil in Thenmaraadchchi division in Jaffna district in December 2000.
