Pavement vendor shot dead in Jaffna town

[TamilNet, Thursday, 28 June 2007, 16:23 GMT]
Unidentified men armed with pistols shot dead a pavement fancy-goods seller Thursday around 3:30 p.m., in front of Poobalasingham Book Shop located at the entrance of Jaffna Central Bus Terminus next to Jaffna Teaching Hospital, in the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone, sources in Jaffna said. The killers left the site of crime, located close proximit to several SLA sentry points, without showing any great haste, raising suspicion of SLA complicity in the killing, civil society sources in Jaffna said.

The victim was identified as Sangarapillai Sivakanthan, 29, a resident of Cheddi Street, Nalloor.

Jaffna police recovered the victim's body and handed it to Jaffna Teaching hospital mortuary.
