Two civilians wounded in SLA retaliation for Claymore attack in Jaffna

A 53-year-old man and a 47-year-old were seriously wounded in indiscriminate gunfire by the Sri Lanka Army soldiers in Maasiyappiddi, 11 km northwest of Jaffna city, after a Claymore attack in which two soldiers were wounded at 7:40 a.m. Friday.
The two civilians seriously injured in the blast were identified as T. Velmurugan, 47, a family man of Chunnaakam south and Sellan Nalliah, 53, of Maasiyappiddi, Cha'ndilippaay. People in the area said they saw dead bodies of SLA troopers being taken in vehicles. The troopers who arrived at the attack site from Maasiyappiddi camp, opened fire after witnessing the casualties of the ambush. The SLA launched a cordon and search around the site deploying a large number of troopers. Information on arrests is not available.
