SLA trooper found dead inside Point Pedro camp

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was found with gunshot injuries within his camp located at Polika'ndi coastal village in Vadamaraadchi north Friday night, SLA sources in Point Pedro said. The Officer-in-charge of the camp said in his statement to Point Pedro police that the trooper was distraught over not being granted leave, and had shot himself dead.
The dead trooper was identified as Kodithuwakku Pannasiri, 46. Point Pedro police handed over the body to Manthikai Government hospital, for postmortem examinations. Point Pedro magistrate K. Ariyanayagam, on inspecting the body said that the body had suspicious injuries, and directed the police to transfer the body to the Colombo government hospital for medical examinations. The magistrate also instructed the Police to submit a medical report to the court. The soldier's body was flown to Colombo on judge's order.
