Police to record statement from UNP Parliamentarian

Terrorist Intelligence Division (TID) of the Sri Lanka Police has summoned Dr.Jayalath Jayawardene, parliamentarian of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) representing the Gampaha district of the Western Province, to its office on Monday July 2 to record his statement, political sources in Colombo said.

Dr.Jayalath Jayawardene told Colombo media persons Sunday he has received a letter summoning him to TID office Monday.

He added that parliamentarians who make comments on the alleged bribery, corruption and human rights violations in the government sector are being subjected to harassment by law enforcement authorities.

His summoning to the TID office is a part of the harassment, he said.
