Police constable shot, injured in Jaffna

Unidentified men armed with pistols shot and injured a police constable Tuesday around 8:30 a.m., in front of Jaffna courts, located at Fourth Cross street in Jaffna town, as he and a fellow policeman reported for duty in the Courts premises, sources in Jaffna said. The injured policeman was rushed to Jaffna Teaching hospital.
The two police men are attached to Jaffna police station located close to Jaffna Courts. Sri Lanka Army and the police launched a cordon and search immediately after the shooting around the site. Meanwhile, all main roads leading into Jaffna town, including the roads at Kalviyangkaadu, Nalloor, Naayanmaarkaddu and Koayil Veethi, were blocked for traffic for intensive checking, following the shooting.
