Armed men open fire on SLA in Jaffna

Unidentified armed men opened rapid fire on a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road patrol team Friday around noon, along the road between Thirunelveali and Ka'l'liyangkaadu at Thirunelveali in Jaffna city, sources in Jaffna said. The SLA said none of its men were hurt.

The SLA and the police had combed this particularly area thoroughly Wednesday, looking for suspicious elements.

All traffic along the road where the attack took place was closed for traffic for nearly three hours following the incident.

The SLA searched the surroundings after the armed men had escaped undetected from the site.
