Families displaced from I'raalkuzhi village in Moothoor division in
Trincomalee district due to military offensives by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in 2006 were transported by seven buses back to their village Thursday for resettlement. Buses carrying 264 members of 103 families left Aalangkea'ni and Eachchantheevu villages in Kinniya division Thursday morning, division secretariat sources said.
The IDP families have been staying in two schools in Kinniya division, Aalangkea'ni Vinaayagar Maha Vidiyalayam and Eachchantheevu Vipulananda Vidiyalayam since they fled from Ir'aalkuzhi in July, August 2006. The last bus with IDPs left Eachchantheevu by noon to Ir'aalkuzhi. Belongings of the IDP families were transported in a lorry and a van supplied by the police, civil society sources said. The police gave them protection. Moothoor Divisional Secretary received the IDPs at Moothoor Central College, and provided lunch and other assistance until they were taken to the village by ferry.
