About seven hundred Tamil families displaced from Chooranakar in Eachchilampathu division in Trincomalee district are to be resettled back in their villages Monday, civil society sources in Trincomalee said. The IDP families fled in 2006 from their homes due to the military operation launched by the Sri Lanka Army and are now sheltered in temporary structures in several villages in Batticaloa district.
The IDPs were earlier to be transported in buses from Batticaloa to Eachchilampathu through Vaharai Thursday. But it was later called off for unannounced reasons. Officials in-charge of the resettlement effort said that about three thousand IDP families fled to Batticaloa have already been resettled in Eachchilampathu division in three stages.
