2 civilians injured in grenade explosion in Maanippaay

Two civilians were injured when a hand grenade, accidentally dropped by a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) road patrol unit member, exploded Friday around 10:30 a.m. in front of a bank building located along the Main Road in Maanippaay, Valikaamam, residents in the area said.

The injured civilians were admitted to Maanippaay government hospital.

The SLA claimed that the grenade was hurled on their unit by unidentified attackers.

A cordon and search operation was conducted in the area.
