Sri Lanka is to observe a two minute silence in respect of dead troops, Government allocates 700,000 RS for filming documentary about S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike and TELO holds annual national convention today and tomorrow.
War dead rememberedThe Sri Lankan Police announced today that a 2 minute silent will be observed between 8.00 and 08.02 a.m. tomorrow, November 8, to commemorate dead Soldiers. A communiqué released by the Police department said all vehicles shall stop during this two minute period. Last Tuesday special prayers were held in temples and churches as announced by the Presidential Secretariat to invoke blessings upon soldiers of the Sri Lankan army who are fighting the Liberation Tigers in the north and east of the island.
Commemoration filmThe Sri Lankan Government has allocated 700,000 rupees to produce a documentary film about Mr. S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike, former prime minister and father of present president, said Yukthiyta, a Sinhalese weekly this week. The film will be produced by the Bandaranaike Centre in view of his 100 birth anniversary on January 8 next year, the paper said further. (1 US $ is apporximatley 67 Sri Lankan Rupes)
TELO holds annual conventionThe Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO) is holding its annual national convention in its head office in Colombo today and tomorrow. Fifty-five representatives from the north-eastern province will also take part in the convention said TELO sources.
