Tigers help A'lampil student victim

In an event held last week in Mullaitheevu district by Fisheries Co-operative Federation, T. Vinayagam, the Commanding Officer of Sea Tigers gave Rs.100,000 towards medical expenses to the student who lost both legs in the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombing on fishing hamlet in A'lampil July 11, sources in Vanni said. The SLAF air raid also killed two others, and injured more than twelve.



Premathas Mariasintha, the mother of the beneficiary Premathas Premkumar, expressed her gratitude, and said that her husband risks his life daily fishing in Mullaitheevu seas to provide for their son's medical expenses.

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) has been firing at fishing boats leaving A'lampil shores during last several weeks scaring away fisher folks from earning their livelihood.

"We are innocent fisher-folk being driven from one place to the other by Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Army, risking our lives to earn a living. My first born child whom we hoped would be a support to us has been robbed of both his legs by the bombings by SLAF. We appreciate the LTTE's help to see us through our plight and to build my son's future," Mariasintha said.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) gunboats fired at a fishing vessel Saturday night and seriously wounded a 22-year-old fisherman and his brother in the seas off Chemmalai, 2 km east of A'lampil in Mullaiththeevu district. Both the brothers are admitted at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mullaiththeevu District hospital.
