Auto-rickshaw driver shot dead in Jaffna

Two unidentified gunmen on motorcycle shot dead a three-wheeler owner in front of Aero Lanka office located at Naavalar road, Kantharmadam, around 11:30 a.m., Tuesday. The victim was waiting to transport passengers from the private travel agency located in an area inside Sri Lanka Army (SLA) High Security Zone (HSZ) in Jaffna.

The victim was identified as Vadivanathan Kajapratheep, 21, father of one child.

The killing took place 300 metres from Jaffna-Palaali road, always heavily guarded by SLA troops.

Many three-wheeler drivers had been killed earlier by armed men alleged to be paramilitary members collaborating with the Sri Lanka Armed Forces in Jaffna peninsula, civil society sources in Jaffna said.

Kajapratheep had been intimidated with frequent death threats in the recent past.
