SLA lifts night fishing ban in Vaakarai

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has lifted the ban on night fishing in Vaakarai Sea but asked the fishermen to register their names before leaving the shore, according to fisheries sources in the area. About four thousand fishermen is expected to benefit from the easing of ban.

The fishermen have been allowed to fish in daytime but night fishing was banned for a long period due to security situation.

Fishermen have been asked to register their names with the SLA camp located at Vaakarai, fisheries sources said.
