New police division for Mannaar district

Mannaar district is to be administered as separate police division under a Senior Superintendent of Police with effect from 6 August 6 Monday, sources in Mannar said. A separate Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) will be appointed in Mannaar to administer police stations in Murunkan, Talaimannaar, and Mannaar. Police sentries in Erukalampiddy, Pe'saalai, Thoo'dave'li and Uyilankulam would also come under the administration of the Mannaar police division.

Currently police stations and sentry points in Mannaar district are administered by the SSP designated for Vavuniya police division.

The military trained police deployed in Mannaar district also would come administration of the Mannaar police division, sources said.

The office building of the Assistant Superintendent of Police located close to the main post office in Mannaar town is being renovated to accommodate the office of the newly appointed SSP for Mannaar police division.
