Karukaamunai IDPs to be resettled

More than two hundred twenty families displaced from Karukaamunai, a village in Eachchilampathu division in Trincomalee district, are to be resettled next week. Currently they are being sheltered in temporary structures in Batticaloa after they fled from their homes last year following a military operation launched by the Sri Lanka Army, Eachchilampathu divisional secretariat sources said.

The displaced families would be brought to Karukaamunai from Batticaloa on Monday in buses specially deployed for this purpose, via Vaaharai, civil sources said.

About 5000 members of around 1800 families displaced and sheltered in Batticaloa district have already been resettled in several villages in Eachchilampathu division.
