Search operation conducted in Mutuwal

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and police conducted a combined cordon and search operation covering Mutuwal, Himbula Ela and Aluthmawatte suburbs in Colombo from morning till afternoon on Monday on a tip off that suspicious persons were hiding in the area. Several residents including Tamil civilians staying with their relatives were taken in for questioning by the Terrorist Intelligence Division during the operation, civil sources in Colombo said.

Male residents of Himbula Ela were taken out from their houses to a playground and were videoed by the security forces.

The police has not released the number of Tamil civilians arrested in the house-to-house search operation to media, sources said.
