About two hundred Muslim families were forcibly moved from Arafa Nagar, a suburb located in Moothoor division in Trincomalee district by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) on Friday evening on the pretext that their village comes also under the high security zone. Arafa Nagar is located close to Moothoor east, which is declared a high security zone by the government after the completion of military operation, civil society sources said.
The displaced families have sought refuge in schools and houses of their relatives in other parts of Moothoor town and are living under immense suffering, sources said. The families were first displaced and sought refuge in a school at Kanthalaai last year following the broke out between the government troops and LTTE. The families were resettled in March this year and started their cultivation and animal husbandry. They have now been ordered out of their village for the second time, sources said.
