Youth abducted in Jaffna, two seek protection at HRC

A 21-year old youth from Chandilippaay North, Jaffna, who had come to Sinhala Maha Vidiyalayam to travel out of Jaffna to Trincomalee in Sri Lanka Army (SLA)-run passenger ship, was abducted by armed men in motocyles Tuesday morning 10:00 a.m. from Hospital road in the center of Jaffna Town within the Jaffna High Security Zone (HSZ), sources in Jaffna said.
The abducted youth, Thirunaamam Manoharan, was earlier displaced from Pazhai area and was temporarily living in Chandilippaay in Jaffna. Meanwhile, two other youths have surrendered at the Jaffna offices of the Human Rights Commission (HRC), officials at the HRC said. S. Yesurajah, 30, from Old Park Road, Kachcheari in Jaffna, and T. Tharsan, 21, from Allaarai North, Meesaalai requested safety in protective custody through the HRC against threats to their lives from Sri Lanka Army soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitaries.
