Armed men abduct youth in Meesaalai, two men missing in Jaffna

Unidentified armed men forcibly abducted a youth Saturday from his house at Meesaalai north in Thenmaraadchi according to a complaint filed by the family members of the youth with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office Monday.
The youth abducted Saturday is Thambirasa Jeevakanthan, 21, of Meesaalai north. The abductors, arriving at the house of Jeevakanthan Saturday around 5:30 p.m, said they wanted to take him for interrogation and forcibly took him away while his family members were held at gun point. Meanwhile, a family man, Subramaniam Kangatharan, 32, from Araali north, Vaddukkoadai, is reported missing since August 5. In a similar incident, Arumaithurai Satheeskumar, 19, a fisherman, is reported missing since August 13. The number of persons being abducted by armed men and many reported gone missing, is on the increase at an alarming rate in the peninsula and complaints about them are being made daily to HRC, ICRC and Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) stationed in Jaffna, civil society sources in Jaffna said.
