About thousand persons from three hundred displaced families sheltered in welfare centres in Killiveddy and Pattithidal have been undergoing untold hardships to prepare their meals due to the non-availability of firewood and kerosene for cooking, civil society sources said.

A section of these IDP families were brought from Batticaloa district and being sheltered in welfare centres. They have been waiting to be resettled in their own villages in Moothoor east pending the clearance from the Sri Lanka Army.

Non-governmental organizations are assisting the families to resettle.
