SLN kills fisherman in Vadamraadchi Sea

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Dvora Fast Attack gunboats attacked fishermen in Vadmaraadchi waters, killing one and destroying two fishing boats, Friday from 7:30 p.m to 12:30 p.m., according to complaints made to Vadamaraadchi East Fishermen Co-operative Federation, General Manger (GM) T. Balasingham said. One fishermen managed to escape from the SLN attack, swimming ashore.
The fishermen were were at sea in 6 boats in Vadamaraadchi Sea when five Dvora gun boats of the SLN attacked them. The fishermen in four boats managed to reach shore, the GM said. The fisherman who swam ashore is T. Santhanam, 29. They are both residents of Uduththu'rai, Vadamaraadchi. The victim, whose body washed ashore at Vettilaikearni with gunshot wounds, was identified as V. Inpanathan alias Chandran, 41, father of 3. Inpanathan's wife and a child were killed in 2004 tsunami. His three surviving children are now orphans. In a similar SLN attack, two fishermen, gone missing 28 August, are presumed dead.
