One family man from Pungkudutheevu islet of Jaffna and five civilians from Thenmaraadchi sought protection with Human Rights
Commission (HRC) Jaffna, fearing for their lives due to death threats from Sri Lanka Army (SLA) backed Tamil paramilitary armed men, Thursday, sources in Jaffna said.
The five from Thenmaraadchi seeking protection are from the villages of
Thavasikkulam, Kodikaamam, Chaavakachcheari, Meesaalai and Va'ra'ni. HRC officials made arrangements for the six civilians to be produced at
Jaffna Courts to be kept in protective custody of Jaffna prison. The number of civilians from Thenmaraadchi seeking protection with the HRC
is rising at an alarming rate recently as youths, college students and
families with children have surrendered to the HRC in fear of death, HRC
sources said.
