Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has destroyed more than thirty houses belonging to Eachilampaththu Internally Displaced People (IDP) to establish a camp in Verugal division in Trincomalee, civil society sources in Trincomalee said. The victims brought this to the notice of a delegation of the Inter-Religious Peace Forum (IRPF) headed by Trincomalee-Batticaloa Diocese Bishop Dr.Kingsely Swampillai.

IRPF officials visited Eachchilampathu on Wednesday to see the plight of the displaced families brought from Batticaloa for resettlement in Eachchilampathu.

Of seventy-three families brought from Batticaloa district for resettlement 40 families have been staying with their relations and about 30 families are in temporary shelters as their houses had been demolished by the SLA.

The affected families have requested the IRPF delegation to help them to live in their lands.
