"The youth of the hill country will not be satisfied by mere resolution of labor disputes. Our past leaders were wasting their time concentrating only on labor related issues. That is why our community is backward compared to many other communities," said Estate Housing Deputy Minister B. Chandrasekaran in a meeting held on Nov 20 in Kotegala.
"We cannot be satisfied thinking that problems present in our community will be solved by building houses and supplying them electricity or by solving labor disputes. "We do not have our own University. We do not have a National School. More than 50% are unemployed in the estates. "All such problems have to be confronted and solved, and youth of the hill country should come forward and play a key role," said Chandrasekaran.
